GEARBOX Question.

Just gearing up ( sorry for the pun), collecting bits I will need ahead of ordering a kit. I have the running gear from a 1976 XJ6 4.2 ltr. Diff is powrlok 3.058 ratio. Will be,eventually, looking for a Chevy 5.7 V8 (say 300 BHP ).

It seems that Getrag is a favoured gearbox. The question is:
should it be BMW ( 5 speed? ) and if so from what model car? I guess the gearbox ratios will have an enormous effect on how the Cobra will run / perform?

Any help / guidance would be much appreciated.

You will need a gearbox from 3.6 XJS manual/XJ40. This will have a .8 5th gear. Tyres will normally be 255/45/17 on the rear. If you use our link under the heading 'FAQ' and 'What donor parts do I require' you can calculate your MPH per 1000 revs.
