Rear Suspension Travel 2008/03/30 02:10
Hi, When fitting my rear suspension radius arms today I notice that the movement in the ball joints which mount to the body reach their limit of depression before the shocks are fully extended. I suspect that the spring pressure will put a lot of strain on these joints, when the wheels are off the ground, if I just bolt them up. Do some ball joints allow more angle than others? Worth trying some others?

Taking rather a long time on my build, Stopped for a while but going again now.

Hi Robin

It is very important to set the tie bars at ride height (150mm from top of hub to top of chassis member) before shocks are fitted and then make sure the hub will go two inches up and two inches down with the tie bar fitted. When fitted correctly there will be no stress on the ball joint as the rubber in the bush will take it up.

However, because of customers' not setting the tie bars up correctly we no longer use them on the later kits, although we do triangulate the rear wishbones.

Regards Lynda
