Heavy Clutch 2008/09/02 16:28
I finished piping up and beeding the clutch last night. The clutch mechanism seems to work OK but the pedal is pretty heavy. I have a 3/4" master and a 7/8" slave which I thought is pretty much standard for cobra builds. I have piped it up with 3/16" brake pipe. Would re-piping it with 1/4" pipe help the situation?

The only problem I have with doing this is the master cylinder only has a 3/8 UNF outlet and I'm not sure if I can get a fitting to allow a 1/4" pipe go into the master cylinder, the slave isn't a problem as that has a 7/16" UNF inlet and I know I can get a fitting for that.

Hello Mick

Your master cylinder and slave cylinder sizes are correct, so thats ok. Piping it in 1/4" would very marginally make it less heavy, although if you ever think about fitting a servo to the clutch it would need to be piped in 1/4". I normally fit 1/4", drilling out the master cylinder 3/16" fitting, grinding off the unthreaded portion on the end of the fitting and then it will fit. (Sometimes you have to run a file round the flare, depending on how large your flaring tool makes it).
